Still Have Biomass Boiler Questions?  We Are Here to Help.

If you have a heating system currently doing the job, the easiest boiler sizing indication is the nameplate which will state it’s BTU or kW rating.  If you don’t have this, a quick rule of thumb to start you on the way is to calculate the following:  Total Square Footage you want to heat ÷ 100 = Kw rating of your boiler.  For eg. 10,000 square feet ÷ 100 = 100kW rating for your boiler.

Of course there are many more factors to consider before you make a final decision.  To learn more, read our Sizing Guide.

Heizomat Biomass Boilers have some of the most robust feed systems and smart controls allowing them to burn a range of biomass fuels.  Here are some of your options:

  • Softwood or Hardwood Woodchips
  • Wood Pellets
  • Shavings
  • Sawdust
  • Bark
  • Cardboard and Paper
  • Straw
  • Miscanthus
  • Ground Waste Pallets
  • Recycled Construction Wastewood

There are many options available though we most highly recommend Woodchips as the lowest cost, most efficient fuel. Woodchips must be in the range of 20-30% Moisture content and depending on your boiler and feed auger size, you should aim for a chip size between 1″-2″ on average in length and width.

When considering some of the other fuel options we recommend reaching out to discuss this with one of our experts.  Things to consider include:

  • BTU content by volume (eg sawdust is very high in volume but low in BTU(heat) content compared to woodchips
  • Ash content of your fuel
  • Moisture content
  • Size and shape of the material and how it will handle in the augering systems.

We are happy to help with this evaluation process to ensure that your fuel source will provide you with the heating experience you are looking for.

Heizomat biomass boilers are fully automated.  Once you have your woodchip in the Bunker/Fuel Store, the biomass boiler will pull the fuel in to the boiler as needed.  It will light itself, monitor the fire to produce the heat your buildings need.  It will clean it’s own Combustion Chamber and Register/Heat Exchange Surfaces removing the ash and putting it in the Ash Bin for you.

Bunkers can be designed to need filling once per week, month or even once per year depending your boiler size and heating needs.

Ash Bins range from 40l to 900l and generally need to be emptied anywhere from once per week, month or even once per year!  Small bins can be emptied by hand and larger bins by quick attach to a skid steer.

Minor maintenance such as greasing and checking on blowers takes as little as 30 minutes and should be done 4 times per year.

Full maintenance is done at least once per season and includes cleaning of the chimney, sensors, running the ash and register augers fully clean.  This can take anywhere from 1 – 4 hours depending on the size and number of boilers at your location.  A full maintenance guide and technical support is provided by Heizomat to all new biomass boiler owners.

Standard biomass boiler orders come included with the following:

  • Boiler body and panels
  • Feed System that brings fuel from the Bunker (Fuel Store)
  • Rotary Safety Valve
  • Sprinkler Safety System
  • Ultrasonic Sensor for Fuel Supply
  • Automatic Deashing System with Ash Bin (sizes vary)

Heizomat Biomass Boilers are amongst the most sophisticated and well-designed in the world.  They are rated at 92%+ efficiency.

The space required for your biomass boiler varies depending on your boiler size.  You can download the Technical Specifications for the boiler(s) that you are considering by selecting the boiler model you are interested in above and clicking on Full Details and Drawings.

With the Technical Specifications you will receive examples and measurements for possible boiler room layouts.  We are happy to discuss your particular project with you and come up with creative ways to work with your site requirements.  The boilers have many options in how they can be designed and assembled to suit individual site needs.

We have close to 100 installations across the 3 coasts of Canada.

Biomass Boiler installations include:

  • Rural residences and small family farms heating approximately 6,000 square feet
  • Farm district heating where 2, 3 or more buildings are heated by a single boiler
  • Greenhouse operations starting from 1/2 acre running year round
  • Sawmills heating their buildings with waste residue
  • Commercial operations reducing their wood waste issues by chipping on site and then using that fuel to heat their buildings
  • We are very popular with Poultry Farms who are improving their bottom line by reducing significant propane heating bills
  • Off grid and Remote Communities where waste wood can be sourced from fire safety measures and used to replace high cost fuel oil.
