“I Can Sleep Through the Night!”
“Heating 25,000 ft2 of greenhouses with oil was just too expensive and after many years running a couple of wood boilers I finally switched to wood chip. Now I have the time and money to grow the business, but the best part is, I get to sleep through the night!”
Tim Halliday – Driftwood Greenhouse, NS
Is it a Good Option for You?
Wood chip & biomass boilers require special feed systems that make the economics less attractive when heating less than 5,000 ft2 (50 kW / 170,000 Btu/hr). A good quality pellet or cord wood boiler is typically better for these small systems.
Using your own fuel significantly improves the economics and if you currently burn your own cord wood you can sell that wood for income and chip the leftover tops for fuel.
Common loading methods include a machine with a bucket (tractor, skid steer), a forage blower or a dump truck. Vertical auger and blower systems are also available for loading fuel from dump trucks or machines with large buckets.
If you plan to store more fuel on site than fits in your bunker you will need to have space for this and want to ensure you can keep the weather off it with a roof or a tarp.
Whether you currently heat with a boiler or furnace, integrating a wood chip boiler with your current heating system is relatively straightforward using standard fittings and heat exchangers.

About Heizomat

Heizomat Germany
Energy in Harmony with Nature
Driven by a desire for wood heating to be as convenient as fossil fuels, Robert Bloos built his first wood chip feed system in 1982, pioneering an industry. Log grapples, screened chippers and fuel handling systems soon followed, offering customers the ability to reclaim control over their energy costs.
Still a family-owned business, Heizomat has over 300 employees, over 370,000 ft2 of manufacturing space in Bavaria Germany and has sold more than 50,000 units in over 30 countries. They are famous for their industrial build quality, continuous innovation and 30+ year life span.
